CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 28) — Four heat races were held Friday evening offering 16 starting spots into the ARP Street Stock division’s feature event scheduled Oct. 29 during the World Short Track Championships at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, and victories were claimed by Mike Grady Jr., Mitchell Duvall, Blake Pryor and Kade Langley.
The Street Stock portion of the seventh edition of the DIRTcar-sanctioned speedfest is a collaboration with the Eastaboga, Ala-based Crate Racin' USA organization for the third year in a row.
A total of 47 drivers signed in to participate in the highly-competitive division that frequently stages one of the most entertaining events each year in the 10-division presentation at the 4/10-mile oval. The top four finishers transferred from each heat.
Mike Grady Jr. led from start to finish in the first one, escaping two early cautions, including one that involved former event winner Calob McLaughlin.
Completing the top five were Brandon White, Bradley Weaver, Justin Barber and Tanner Fortune.
Mitchell Duvall led every circuit in the second six-lap heat, and left behind a solid battle for the rest of the transfer spots.
Placing second through fourth to earn spots in the main were Dalton Pannell, Patrick Lyon and Phoenix Lawter, while David Duke rounded out the top five.
Blake Pryor exploded to the front in the third heat after a three-wide forward launch that made him the race leader exiting the second turn.
The Mooresboro, N.C., driver paced the rest of the way without serious challenge to lead Dalton Peavy, Devon Morgan, Mattison Hoots and Andrew Durham across the finish line.
The fourth and final heat was claimed by Kade Langley, who emerged from a wild scramble for the top spot on the opening circuit.
He took the point and led the rest of the distance in a race that ended with a multiyear crash in turn four, and Langley was trailed in the top five by Ronnie Mosley, Bailey Loftin, Ricky Greene and Garrett Killman.
